Objective:  Today we will examine the difference between atoms and molecules.  

Purpose:  To understand that all matter in the universe is made up of atoms, and atoms combine chemically to make molecules.  

POD  Take out your Molecules and Compounds Worksheet and determine the difference between molecules of: Sugar, Vitamin C, Aspirin, Advil, and Peppermint.

What is the difference between mass and weight?

Agenda:

1.  Collect POD from last week.

2.  Discuss computer lab issues and quiz results

3.  Just how small is an atom

4.  Atoms to molecules

• use the periodic table to diagram elements from Group 1, 2, 15, 16, 17, 18
• place the correct number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in your drawing
• you have notes on how to calculate the number of protons, use them.
